Martin PBM Mariner

The Aircraft

Designed in 1937 to meet a U.S. Navy requirement for a replacement for the PBY Catalina, the prototype PBM first flew in 1939.  The engines were mounted in large nacelles which included weapons bays that could carry 2,000 lb (907 kg) of bombs or depth charges.

The Mariner saw service primarily in air-sea rescue, ASW and transport roles.  This aircraft was flown by the Royal Australian Air Force, Argentina, the Netherlands and Uruguay.
